Sok Ying & Aloysius Express Highlights

Today we woke up at 5am to shoot for Sok Ying & Aloysius …

AND to see the torture the brothers were put through — tearing hair off their legs with masking tape (not wax strips ok?), aloysius drinking a glass of maple syrup MIXED WITH SALIVA (from himself & bros), boys doing pushups while eating suan tian ku la bread AND then girls sitting on aloysius while he pumped pushups… all because he couldn’t spell hippopotamus..

hilarious day although i was busy trying to hide myself from both flo’s and lestin’s cam, had fun chatting with the aunties, father, mom, other grandmas/gu-mas, etc. i love cantonese families!

express highlights was even more fun to do when i saw what flo had shot (couldn’t see as i was hiding mah)… sisters got the price they wanted even though aloysius already bought & paid for their dresses and the brothers were so gung-ho about ALL the games.. even the stripping of clothes/dress up in noodle-seller aprons. :D

and then sok ying’s gu-ma said (in cantonese) “wah $899? in our time i was snatched away for only $9.99.. (pause) i’m so cheap!” wahahahahahhaahah

ANYWAY due to bandwidth reasons, says flo the meoworks website manager (oh and i’m repeating the same joke again in case some of u didnt get it the 1st time round), we’ll not be putting up the express highlights video BUT if you wish to watch it, you can email carrie@meoworks.com.sg

have a lovely november!

p/s: today i read in the papers on how to do a budget wedding in our times of recession… nothing on video budgeting though.. i guess that means we’re still going strong! :)

Biblical Origins of Dogs and Cats

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to “Where do pets come from?”

Adam and Eve said, “Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us.”

And God said, “I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.”

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.

And it was a good animal.

And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, “Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.” And God said, “I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him Dog.”

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, “Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.”

And God said, “I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration.”

And God created Cat to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them.

And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat’s eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn’t give a shit one way or the other. :)

Yubo & Serene - Interview

it’s a really funny video.. but flo the meoworks website manager has decided that bandwidth will exceed if i insist on putting up the funny video, so it has been taken off. please contact carrie@meoworks.com.sg if you want to watch it.

Mr and Mrs Ong Golden Wedding Anniversary

Video has been removed due to bandwidth reasons. Please contact carrie@meoworks.com.sg if you wish to see the video.
Thanks

Hi Mr and Mrs Ong,
It was really heartwarming to shoot for a couple that had been married for the past 50 years.
Instead of our usual 15 mins MTV, I had decided to make yours into a longer 1/2 hr video as I had realised how important each guest and relative was to you and would like to give them a little more ‘air’ time. Do hope you won’t find the video too long. :)
Once you have approved the flow/choice of footage, we’ll proceed with fine-tuning the audio and visuals before burning it out onto a DVD for you.
We’ll also need 3-4 of your favourite photos so that we may begin making DVD covers to go along with your DVD.
You may email me at flo@meoworks.com.sg
Hope to hear from you soon.

And here’s another 50 more years to you! -winks.

spore men’s chorus

awhile back, i was DOP for a short film which jeremy directed for the spore men’s chorus so today we
headed down to lee foundation theatre to catch the boys (and the short film) in action.

the one song that i really enjoyed was ‘the pink panther theme’ (u know, the ‘da-dang,da-dang,da-dang,da-dang,da-dang,da-dang,da-dang,da-da-da-dang?). they screened the opening of the movie while the boys sang(? no words leh) to it while trusting their conductor, jason ong. they were spot on with their da-dangs.

footnote: Carrie and I took half an hr to 1)spell the ‘da-dang’s 2) count the ‘da-dang’s and 3)sing it out loud to make sure.

i like jason ong. he moves while conducting like he’s doing his own solo dance. :)

Wedding Paparazzi

A yr ago, when Eileen and I first found out that Wedding Paparazzi was run by a bunch of females, successfully at that, we had always wanted to meet up with them. We knew it wasn’t easy working in a male-dominated field and we wanted to know how did they manage to do that.

We finally had the chance to meet up with them on Thurs.

Ami,
Blossom,
Eva,
Mylene.
(and Duke Orange, of course)

One thing they had in common, besides their sharp sense of humour, is their unusual names. For a person like me who has difficulties in pronoucing names…. theirs was quite a challenge, I didn’t quite dare call them by name for fear of mispronoucing it. :(

Though you could say that we were compeitors, the girls in Wedding Paparazzi were very candid and willing to share their past experiences with us. It was an eye-opening afternoon for Carrie and I and we do greatly appreciate their openness.

Hopefully, this is a sign that there’ll be greater things to come for us all wedding videographers.

ps: Duke Orange is their in-house cat, with his own facebook. absolute royalty, in a class of his own.

(i need a cat)
(Flo wrote the above)

The very efficient Redhat Media guys (Eil and Melvin) tagged us non-stop on facebook with the following 2 photos so we’ve decided to share them with you too:

Joanna Dong - Lullaby Nomad (concert extract)

on 19th sept, we went to jodong’s ep launch (lullaby nomad) concert at esplanade.

Joanna Dong is a local jazz singer (and flo’s friend from jc) whom, i think, has an extremely clear voice. her audience was also very subtle and very respectful. quite a classy performance i must say. oh, her fans are ridiculously huge in number - she sold 150 copies of her album on that night itself and the autograph session took almost an hour. -.-

(flo thinks meoworks will someday have 200 fans too. if only flo could sing…)

so here’s a preview from the concert, it’s lullaby nomad from her ep. (she wrote this song herself)

Mr and Mrs Ong’s Golden Anniversary Celebration

Filed under: anything under the sun

Thursday was my parents’ 31st wedding anniversary.

while, Sat, 27th, was Mr and Mrs Ong’s Golden Anniversary celebration. (for those who are a little blur about all these wedding anniversary names, golden anniversary basically denotes 50 yrs of togetherness.)

To commemorate the day, Mr and Mrs Ong (Pete and Pat) held a thanksgiving ceremony in the church. instead of the usual flower girls and page boys for church weddings, their family members (all 10 grandkiddos, 3 kids and their spouses) walked down the aisle before them. :)

During the dinner, their son gave a speech;
‘My sisters and I are very obedient. Our mother was married at the age of 21 and she told us to get married early. So we did. My sisters and I were married during our mid-twenties. Our mother gave birth to 3 children, 2 girls and 1 boy. So my older sister and I had 3 children; 2 girls and 1 boy. Our youngest sister had 4 children; 2 girls and 2 boys.’

-grin
it’s quite strange that only in the spore/asian context, can ‘obedience’ be considered a virtue.
anyway, during the farewell, so many guests commented on the children’s obedience that the sister cheekily retorted that she should had made her brother censor the ‘obedience’ bit.

okokok. i might have paraphrased his words a little. but that’s about the gist of it.

STYLO @ mercedes benz center

Filed under: anything under the sun

All I could remember of STYLO was that the venue was very packed;

it was originally targetted for 600 guests but so many turned up that 1/3 of them had to remain standing for the 1 hr fashion show showcasing the works of … (yup, i’ve forgotten all the designers’ names. come on lah, give me a break, i’m there to cover the event as a cameraman and not as a host/reporter/etc.)

(i had originally wanted to do up an impressive short paragraph about STYLO being the only red-carpet event during this F1 weekend but i seem to be failing miserably. it’s obvious i should just remain behind the camera. bah.)

DJ Bert Bevans

And since I was never in the scene, I’ve absolutely no idea who those men were (sorry lah) till last night but they had absolutely no qualms telling my camera their favourite undies and what passionate lovers they make. Rob even told J-star to dig deeper so that he could reveal more dirt about himself. -laughs.

They’re fun and relaxed.
I should be meeting them a couple more times over the weekend.

zzzzzzzz

Filed under: anything under the sun

a yr n a half ago, i had promised myself that i would never do 2 full day weddings (that’s 10 hours worth of shooting in a single day for those who ain’t used to the strange wedding lingo.) back to back as it would not be fair to the 2nd couple as I wouldn’t be able to give my best (really. i’m not saying that just bcoz im lazy n i cant drag myself up at 430am 2 days in a row)

so this wkend, i had just broken my personal best.

6th sept - jeanette n JG’s wedding
7th sept - ivy n HP’s wedding (with melvin from redhatmedia . he was the one in charge of the shooting n editing.)

(strange that all the grooms love to b called by their initials.)

and during the afternoon 4-5 hr break, i was busy doing the edit for an ad pitch for yellow brick road.

in all, 6 hrs zzzz within the last 60 hrs.

so forgive me if i don’t make sense anymore.

(pls pity the 2 girls, wei ru and mavis, who r editing downstairs. i dont know if i’m making sense while going thru their edits with them.)

Jeanette & Jieguang ExH

Flo’s cousin, Jeanette, got married yesterday so we went and shot. The ExH was fun to do - only because the groom and brothers were soooooo willing to eat/drink whatever the jiemeis gave them. I had fun!

while preparing for Q&A session:
one of the jiemeis: but this is not the answer! he won’t get it!
all the other jiemeis: that’s the whole point what!

and poor jeanette had no idea her husband was to be put through so much..

here you go. :) enjoy!
Get the Flash Player to see this player.
Shot by Flo. Edited by Carrie

p/s: it was funny when flo had to go take family photos with the bride and groom. she was the most reluctant family member. wahahah.

flo’s comments: it’s not that i was reluctant to take the photos. it’s just that JG was overly eager to have me in his pics. i mean, i barely knew that guy and for all i know, he might be a ….. (censored)

so, jeanette’s the first in our family to get hitched though i had never expected her to be. and she got herself a gd catch. -grin

6th sept was my first time meeting JG and the moment he stepped out of the car in his oversized geeky specs (never expected jeanette to choose a hubby with a better sense of fashion than her. he actually got the skinny ties from topman, london. the ties would be another story for another time), i liked him already.

if i could sum up their relationship, it would be this…..

there they were, on stage, JG was emotionally professing his love for that one special woman (i find it quite strange to think of jeanette as a woman. but.. oh well…) in his life, she was half rolling her eyes heavenwards. and when he came towards her for a hug, she responded by grungingly wrapping her arms around him with her eyes still focusing on that certain spot on the ceiling.

-laughs

they would definitely have lots of fun and love in their years ahead. :)

and to JG, ‘yo cousin!’
